Die Konstruktion des Überich
Galerie Mathias Güntner, Hamburg
september 9, 2022 – january 21, 2023
There are higher, commanding beings, as we know from Sigmar Polke.
And there are the lowlands of simple objects that, always accompanied by an ideal
version of themselves, tend towards critical introspection or even exaggeration.
Reflectively or even reflexively, the motifs make sense of their form. The superego of things, their version in the mirror or after-image, thus also stands for an artistic work that likes to circle questions over its object. And so a never-ending tension oscillates between the thought and the remembered, the seen and the imagined. (M.B.)
Monika Brandmeier’s exhibition “The Construction of the Superego” shows sculptures,
photographs and drawings from 1989 to 2022.
